Una Noche Inolvidable

 

Cuando estoy pensando sobre la cena en mi casa, estoy muy emocíanada para la oportunidad. Si tendría la suerte reunir 5 de mis héroes, ¡me alegraría! A mi cena, invitaría mi abuelo, Geepop; mi padre, Bill, y 3 jugadores talentosos de béisbol: Roberto Clemente, Andrew McCutchen, y Gregory Polanco (el pasado, la presente, y la futura de los Piratas). Geepop y Bill son fanáticos de los Piratas (¡y yo también!), y se gustarían conocer Roberto, Andrew, y Gregory y hablar con estes muchachos. También, estoy segura que los jugadores se gustarían conocer sus aficionados. ¡Sería una noche inolvidable! 

           En la mesa, Geepop estaría al lado de Bill porque los hombres tendrían que hablar sobre la familia, la música, y las memorias. Me sentaría a la izquierda de Geepop, porque se extraño. Gregory, Andrew, y Roberto se sentarían enfrente de nosotros, y entonces haríamos contacto de los oyes. 

Para la cena, serviría comida fantastica. Bill y Geepop se gustarían hacer la parilla para filete y vegetales como pimientas, cebollas, patatas, y judias verdes. Prepararía maís con mantequilla y sal. Para el postre, haría un pastel de duraznos como mi abuela. Pondría la mesa con flores de mi jardín, platos y utensilios de Portmeirion, y las servilletas elegantes. 

Durante la cena, hablaríamos sobre muchas cosas, especialmente béisbol y los Piratas. Roberto, Bill, y Geepop recordarían los 70s con Willy Stargell, Doc Ellis, John Candelaria, Kent Tekulve, Bob Walk, Manny Sanguillen, y muchos otros. Gregory, Andrew, y yo hablarían sobre el partido de béisbol en este día. Discutiríamos "instant replay" y las otras reglas nuevas. Sería muy interesante escuchar Roberto Clemente habla sobre las cambias en béisbol.

Pediría muchas preguntas a mis invitados. 

A Roberto: ¿Quien es la jugador más interesante mirar ahora? y ¿Piensas que los Piratas tengan la suerte para un World Series en este año?

A Geepop: ¿Cuando yo hablo a las estrellas, me escuchas? y ¿Quien era su jugador favorito cuando Roberto jugaba? 

A Bill: ¿Estás feliz que yo te invitaba? y ¿Como era su niñez como un fanático de los Piratas cuando todos de sus amigos eran fanáticos de los Rojos?

A Gregory: ¿Estás emocionado jugar en las ligas mayores? y ¿Tienes ganas de jugar en el campo central, izquierda, o derecho? 

A Andrew: ¿Piensa que era increíble cuando tu ganaste el MVP? y ¿Puedo ser tu chica de flores en su boda?

Sería muy interesante escuchar Roberto y Gregory hablan sobre béisbol y America del Sur. Tendrían mucho en común, y las dos son muy, muy talentoso. Roberto daría mucho aconsejas a Gregory, especialmente sobre la paciencia con bateo. Roberto diría "Gregory, recomiendo que tu concentre en su equipo, y persista sin hesitación." Creo que es un buena idea, y sería muy especial mirar el pasado con la futura de los Piratas. 

Una noche con 3 fanáticos y 3 jugadores talentosos sería increíble. ¡Es de mis sueños! Se extraño mi abuelo mucho, y espero que conocer Roberto, porque era un hombre fantástico. Creo que la memoria de mi padre con sus héroes ha dejado la mayor impresión… y la pastel sería fantástico, también. 

El Trabajo de Alejandro Sanz

Cuando leí sobre la vida de Alejandro Sanz, pensaba que esto hombre es muy talentoso, intelectual, y inteligente. Admiro mucho que Alejandro quiere ayudar el medio ambiente durante su carrera de música. En un articulo sobre el medio ambiente, Alejandro escribió un carta a nuestro presidente, Barack Obama. Alejandro lo pidió pensar sobre el medio ambiente, especialmente la Artica. Alejandro fue a la Artica y vio los problemas de la habitación. El hielo de la Artica está fundiendo y las empresas de aceite están taladrando mucho. ¡Alejandro incluyó esta información en el carta, y Barack Obama lo respondió! Obama reconoció los problemas de la Artica y estuvo de acuerdo con Alejandro. El grupo de Alejandro, Greenpeace, dijo“Es el momento de convertirse en el líder mundial para proteger el legado de las generaciones futuras, como se comprometió al principio de su mandato." Las personas de Greenpeace estuvieron muy felices con el carta de Obama.

Después de leer el articulo, escuché la música de Alejandro Sanz. No es mi música favorita, pero es agradable. Cuando está cantando, Alejandro tiene mucha emoción y la pone en sus letras. Me gusta la canción "Nena." Creo que es sobre una chica en la vida de Alejandro. Recomiendo que escuches:

La canción es romantico, y el hombre en las letras siempre perdona su novia porque se ama. ¡Que dulces! 

Un Decisión Difícil

       

        Estoy un cardiólogo, y usualmente me encanta mi trabajo. Puedo hablar con mis pacientes y sus familias y encuentro un solución perfecto para los problemas. Pero algunos veces, hay problemas que no tienen soluciones y no están en mis manos. Mi problema actual será el problema más difícil de mi carrera, y tengo que hacer un decisión que cambiará las vidas de mis pacientes y sus familias. 

Ahora, cuatro de mis clientes necesitando un corazón inmediatamente. Alejandro, un hombre muy inteligente y científico con tres hijos; Elena, una madre de cuatro hijos y la esposa de un hombre discapacitado; Carlota, una niña muy talentosa y brillante con el violín; y Joseito, un bebe que tiene solo dos semanas. Mi decisión es muy, muy difícil y me duele el corazón cuando estoy pensando sobre el problema. 

Después de muchas noches sin sueño, finalmente, hice mi decisión. Operaré en y daré el corazón a Elena. La familia de Elena la dependen, especialmente porque su esposo sufrió una lesión en la guerra en Iraq. Ella tiene que trabajar mucho para apoyar sus cuatro hijos y su esposa, y sin Elena, la familia sufriría mucho. Es posible que los hijos necesitaría vivir con otros personas sin Elena, haría un situación muy triste. Daré el corazón a Elena, y sabría que sus hijos y su esposa estarán bien. 

Espero que ahorraría todos mis pacientes en este situación. Pero tengo que ofrecer mis razones con mi decisión. Creo que Alejandro vivió una vida súper y dejará un legado espectacular, especialmente con su trabajo astrofísico. Será el mismo para Carlota y su talento con el violín, y todo el mundo recordará la niña. Finalmente, Joseito es solo un bebe y aunque su familia extrañará mucho, todos los miembros podrán funcionar sin el niño. En el otro mano, la familia de Elena no podría funcionar. 

Mi decisión era muy difícil y triste. Ojalá todos mis clientes encuentren un milagro cuando están buscando para otras corazones y doctores. Mi hospital no pueden ayudar los familias, pero las recomendaré a otros cardiólogos y esperaré para un milagro. 

El Comedia de Hari Kondabolu

Hari Kondabolu es un comediante indio y americano de Queens, New York. ¡Kondabolu asistió a Bowdoin para tres años y se graduó en 2004! Creo que el es muy chistoso y tiene una perspectiva buena cuando está pensando sobre el racismo en los Estados Unidos. Me gusta sus puntos sobre el racismo, especialmente el punto que el racismo es solo un construcción social para separar. 

Me reí mucho cuando Kondabolu habló sobre los porcentajes y nacionalidades de los personas "americanos." Es verdad que las personas blancas siempre dicen muchas porcentajes de sus patrimonios como alemán, irlandés, y suecos, y "1/40 americano nativo para los aplicaciones de las universidades." Todos los puntos de Kondabolu son excelentes, y pienso que nuestro país necesita más personas como esto muchacho.  

The Appealing Art of Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí was a Spanish artist who lived from 1904 to 1989. He was a surrealist who worked in many different mediums, but is most famous for his paintings (and his characteristic mustache). Some of his work, like the painting of droopy clocks, is fairly famous and recognizable, but I was never able to put a name on its creator until now!

The painting of Dalí's that really caught my eye was this one, "Departure of the Winged Ship." I love the butterflies and the colors are so beautiful. I enjoy the sharpness of the lines and the clearness of the image. The water and sky and clouds harmonize quite well, and I chuckle at the irony of the people on shore with tiny butterfly nets. It seems to me like Dalí was trying to convey how pesky humans can be sometimes. The butterflies are gigantic, but the people are still on shore with nets. However, there is nothing they can do to stop the mighty ship, as the windswept clouds show that it is moving away from shore, away from its annoyances. I find this picture simply beautiful!

A New Travel Destination

A major thing I learned: I would love to visit Aranjuéz, Spain someday. 

Beautiful landscape, incredible architecture, and deep historical roots sound like the makings of an ideal travel destination for me. After looking at pictures and stories of Aranjuéz, I really hope to make it there at some point. I find it fascinating that the city was essentially built around a palace. The palace was commissioned by King Philip II of Spain and completed in the mid-18th century as an escape for the royal family, way out in the woods. However, it began to expand when Philip added huge gardens around the palace, and eventually a city was built around it. There are many historical buildings in the area, and it is bordered by the Tagus and Jarama rivers. Everything about the area is simply beautiful, and I can definitely see why the royal family chose to build a palace there. If I had unlimited money, I would, too.

Joaquín Rodrigo was a composer born in Valencia who was almost completely blind for the majority of his life. He has huge ties to Aranjuéz, and in 1991 he was dubbed the Marqués de los Jardines de Aranjuéz. Unsurprisingly, his most famous work is the "Concerto de Aranjuéz." It is an absolutely beautiful blend of the Spanish guitar and other instruments like the English horn. Out of three movements, the first one was my favorite. It featured the guitar, wistfully gorgeous. When I closed my eyes and listened, the music evoked images of a secret garden filled with roses and little paths hidden from view. I was tickled to find out that Rodrigo had such a strong connection to the gardens of the palace! 

I plan to do homework to the tune of Rodrigo's relaxing music, dreaming of the day I'll get to see Aranjuéz in person.

A Talk with John Suarez

On Tuesday, my class had the privilege of talking with John Suarez, a leader of the anti Cuban government movement. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I've met, and has so much information to share. He gives raw facts, but also carefully-articulated opinions that really resonate with anyone listening. 

The idea that really resonated with me was one of non-violence. John noted that many oppositional movements against the government have been successful until troops and weapons were mixed in. Although it seems impossible, peaceful protest has been the most effective in changing things for a country. According to John, people only expected the root of World War I to last a few days... But it blew up and earned its infamy after weapons became involved. For this reason, John hopes that troops will not become involved with the student protests in Venezuela.

I completely agree with the idea that nonviolent protest is more effective than violent protest. Fighting leads to killing, which leads to bitter, heartbroken people who could never get along with their former enemies. However, avoiding this style of opposition hurts no one physically, but still gets the point across without wasting time shedding blood.

I do not believe mankind will ever achieve a completely peaceful state. The ratio of diversity to acceptance is way off. There are too many conflicting views and people are too sensitive to let other views slide without a question. The hunger for power is dominant, and people will stop at nothing in the attempt to assert their views and wishes.

As a reporter in Ukraine, I would be very careful. A Bulgarian journalist was attacked by masked men believed to be part of Russian troops, and two Ukrainian news channels in Crimea have been taken off the air and replaced with Russian programs. I would love to gather information on the ground in Crimea, especially from citizens. I want to know if Crimean people really do want to become a part of Russia, or if the Russian government is hyping it up. I would also try to find out the true identity of the masked troops running around Crimea. I find it fascinating that the troops are invading the region without any insignia or indicative clothing. I suppose going unnamed has its advantages, but if Russia and Ukraine are trying to claim Crimea, why aren't they strutting around like they own the place? Isn't confidence key? 

Reading and learning about the dissident movements in other countries, violent or not, makes me remember how lucky our country is to have relative stability.
